A kinda DM FINISHED!

Got two versions for ya, a dark and a light. Both 1680x1050 if you happen to want it as a desktop. If you want a different size, just e-mail me at nick.trujillo@gmail.com and i'll custom size it for you so you don't have to squash/stretch it. :D

This was a labor of love, and a test for myself to see how detailed I could get with Flash, I plan on making professional prints for it in the future, when I have the bank for it. But until then please enjoy my piece! (Click to enlarge)

A kinda DM part 3

Well... my meticulous nature has turned this 2 session project into a 5 session project, but I'm having fun with it so it doesn't bother me too much. Keep in mind that with my schedule I can manage maybe 3-4 two hour sessions a week, so it's not really enough time to knock out a piece quickly. But I digress, today's update consists of hand, leg and foot detail. Here's how far I got last night (Click to enlarge):

The hands and legs went real smooth. Hands naturally take a long time to get the pose right, but I've gotten used to it over time, so it doesn't really bother me. Trying to keep it simple, I just used 3 blocks of color to suggest light in the skin. Those parts went smoothly:

It was the shoes that kinda slowed my progress to a grinding halt. At first I wanted to keep them lineless and simple, but what I came out with was really hard to identify. There was a lot of little strappy things here and there. And a lot of different surfaces that were hard to identify when they were put next to each other. Also, the background is going to be white, which made it even harder to see. So I outlined it and spent a lot of time detailing little bits and pieces to my likeness... 75% of my 2 hour session was spent on one shoe:

All in all, it's coming together really well, and I can't wait to do the background. I think It'll make for an interesting piece. Enjoy!

A kinda DM part 2

I Simplified the hair a bit cause I noticed that when I erased places where there were more strands, I liked the look more. Finally finished the hair (for now) and moved on to the dress... I have a pretty cool idea what I wanna do to with the composition, so I can't wait to finally finish this. Here's the money shots... Enjoy!

The thought bubble is just there for kicks... I might keep it I might not. Also the BG isn't gonna be grey.. just put that in there for contrast

I zoomed in on this one to show some facial/hair detail. Using the highlights to define the hairs direction rather than drawing each strand... which I started to do.... :P

A kinda DM

So there I was, happily working on my robot project late at night and someone on twitter just happened to mention ADM (Appropriately Dirty Minds)... soooo of course I had to stop everything I was doing and draw an appropriate ADM piece. Although, now that I think about it... ADM is actually a bit dirtier than this... ah well... here's my progress shots :D Enjoy!

All this was done in flash, I just like the drawing tools there cause they feel more natural. Even though Illustrator CS4 has a similar brush tool, it still doesn't have the same feel as flash always had for me. Seeing as how I have 4-5 projects waiting completion, I didn't want to spend hella time on this. Maybe 2 sessions or so... but... for some reason, I just can't leave it alone. Hopefully I can finish it soon!

Woodbot Mk 1.0

Yesterday I had the pleasure of having a Starbucks session with my good friends Albert and Eileen, which was one of the most productive sessions I've had in a long time. Few things are better than people watching while making art. So without further ado, here is the product of said session: Woodbot Mk 1.0

The inspiration for this piece is rooted in the short movie A Tale of Two Robots, which was in a collection of animated shorts titled Robot Carnival. This particular collection has a bit of significance, because it was one of the first animes I've ever seen. So in honor of that, I decided to create my own giant wooden robot. Her legs and body need to be detailed a bit more and I want to add a giant weapon of sorts, maybe a spear or something but I'm really happy with how it's coming together.

I think Giant Robots are going to be my next "thing" so look forward to some more, ok? Next up is going to be Albert's Gummy Bot. Peace!
